100 Bishopsgate
Description
100 Bishopsgate is a landmark mixed-use development in the City of London, comprising two buildings: a 181m, 37-storey tower fronting Bishopsgate Road, and a low-rise building to the rear.
Byrne Bros’ scope included the construction of reinforced concrete cores and composite floors for the superstructure slabs. The development spans 900,000 sq ft (84,000 m²), with the slipformed core alone requiring 28,000 m³ of concrete and 4,500 tonnes of reinforcement.
The slipform rig, designed and owned in-house, was engineered to allow the installation of prefabricated steel stairs via permanent openings during the core’s construction. This approach streamlined the programme and reduced the need for later temporary works.
Lobby slabs were cast ahead of the steel frame to provide temporary stability to the concrete core, which at certain points was progressing 15 floors ahead of the structural steelwork.
The combination of innovative in-house slipform design, precision sequencing, and early integration of prefabricated elements ensured the efficient and safe delivery of one of London’s most recognisable high-rise developments.
