BBC Television Centre – Blocks B & C
Description
The redevelopment of the iconic BBC Television Centre included the transformation of Blocks B and C, blending sensitive heritage restoration with complex new construction.
Block B – Helios Building
At the heart of the project, the central Grade II listed Helios Building was retained and refurbished to create new apartments and penthouses around the landmark Helios Statue. The existing studios to the rear—earmarked for replacement by Block C—were demolished, and the superstructure floors were extended.
A new eight-storey steel frame extension was constructed, supported by two jumpformed cores, providing modern structural performance while complementing the historic architecture.
Block C – Crescent Apartments
Block C replaced the former studios with a striking curved, reinforced concrete, eight-storey apartment building featuring two basement levels and five jumpformed cores. The crescent-shaped design offers premium apartments and penthouses, each with private balconies or gardens overlooking either Hammersmith Park or newly landscaped private courtyard gardens.
This phase of the Television Centre regeneration combined meticulous heritage preservation with innovative engineering solutions, delivering high-quality residences within one of London’s most recognisable landmarks.
