Bromford Tunnel Intermediate Shaft

As part of the HS2 works, Byrne Bros delivered the construction of shaft walls, slabs, and precast stairs within a new headhouse structure.

The works included:

• Slipform construction of reinforced concrete shaft walls, approximately 37 metres high.
• In-situ RC walls and triple-height decking for RC slab construction in the western section of the shaft.
• Five levels of suspended RC slabs in the eastern section of the shaft.
• Installation of precast stairs to complete vertical circulation.
  

This complex shaft construction combined slipform and in-situ techniques to meet the demanding programme and quality standards of the HS2 infrastructure project.
