North London Heat & Power Plant

Byrne Bros (Formwork) Limited has delivered the Civils and Reinforced Concrete (RC) Structures package for the North London Heat & Power Plant project, completing extensive works across Phases I and II. The scope involved the installation of over 6,700 tonnes of reinforcement and 56,480m³ of concrete.

The works included pile caps and capping beams, more than 14,000m² of base slabs incorporating cast-in drainage and earthing mats, and eight satellite stair cores rising to heights of 56 metres. A major feature of the project was the construction of waste bunker walls across a 72m by 35m footprint, slipformed to an in-house design using proprietary formwork systems. Additional elements comprised waterproofed liner walls, traditionally formed tank room walls, over 4,500m² of suspended slabs, in-situ reinforced concrete columns, precast columns, 100-tonne precast pre-stressed beams, precast MY beam composite slabs, and more than 170 linear metres of reinforced concrete electrical box trench, including over 370 removable RC lids cast and installed on site.

All works were undertaken in accordance with our OHSAS 18001-compliant Health & Safety Management System and ISO 9001-certified Quality Management System, supported by our in-house Temporary Works design capability. This integrated approach ensured the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of complex structural elements within a live and demanding construction environment.

We are currently progressing additional works for the principal contractor, including the supply and installation of precast stairs, construction of reinforced concrete roads and pavements, installation of power-floated screed slabs and epoxy resin flooring throughout the process building, and composite deck slabs to the superstructure frame.

The project has been delivered in close coordination with our sister company, Byrne Groundworks, whose enabling and infrastructure works were carried out in parallel to maintain programme alignment and seamless integration.
