One Nine Elms
Description
One Nine Elms is a mixed-use skyscraper scheme currently under construction in Nine Elms, London.
The larger of the 2 skyscrapers, the City Tower, will reach 200m over 58 floors while the River Tower will reach 160m over 43 floors and incorporate a hotel with amenities in a low rise podium.
The scope includes all superstructure RC elements above ground floor comprising of large cores, post tensioned slabs, composite columns and light steelwork at the top of the buildings.
The superstructure has a floor area of 570,000 sq ft (53,000m2) and will generate 27,000m3 of concrete and 4,200t of reinforcement.
Complex reinforcement combined with large bespoke cast-in steel spandrels above the door openings dictated that jump form was the right solution for both primary cores.
The superstructure columns were a technical challenge. Designed as composite columns with plate fabricated steels encased in a fully reinforced concrete column, they put pressure on the programme.
Developed with the Structural Engineer and our steel supplier, the column heights were staggered reducing the number of lifts per floor, shims were designed to plumb the columns efficiently, while maintaining the ‘full bearing’ contact the design required and the reinforcement cages were prefabricated.
